JS Saddlery is the home of custom saddle maker and leather craftsman, James Sturgeon. We are located at 7931 Highway 180 West, Cliff, NM. Just 30 miles from Silver City, NM and 35 Miles from Glenwood, NM our shop hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Closed on Sunday. Inside our custom saddle web site is presented just a few of the unlimited custom saddle and accessory styles available to you. Every one of our custom saddles are designed and built to provide maximum comfort for both horse and rider. Our custom saddles and leather accessories include saddles, breast collars, head stalls, saddle bags, tapaderos, gun rigs, rifle scabbards, gun bags, ammo bags, belts, spur straps, reins, leather pillows and camera bags. They are designed to use...built to last. The items presented are just a sampling of the possibilities and offer suggestions for your finished product. Your combinations are endless. Items (other than saddles) are usually shipped within 2 weeks.
FITTING YOUR HORSE: The Tree is selected and fitted to your specifications. If it's not possible for me to personally fit your horse, try the next best thing: use a 24" piece of solder wire and shape it down over your horses' withers and through the pockets just behind the scapula bone. Transfer this shape to a piece of paper by tracing around the wire. Now, beginning at the same point, shape the wire down the horses back bone for 24", transferring this to a piece of paper. From these patters and a picture of your horse, I can assure the correct Tree will be selected for proper fit. FITTING THE RIDER: I will need to know the size of seat and type of saddle you are presently using, along with your height ,weight and inseam measurement. Plain seats have a fit that is 1/2 inch smaller than padded seats. The best way to determine the size seat you need is to measure from the base of the horn to the center of the cantle edge on any saddle that feels good to you. TOOLING or hand carving designs are selected by you and can include name, initials, name of business or ranch logo or brand. Our craftsmanship and your satisfaction is fully guaranteed. ORDERING: We require a $350 non-refundable deposit to begin your saddle. Average length of time to complete your order will be from 10 to 12 months. You will find this quite common with custom saddle orders. Payment of any balance plus shipping charges is required prior to shipment. We are happy to accept monthly payment and accept Master Card and Visa. Items other than saddles are usually shipped within two weeks. Full payment must accompany these orders, including all shipping charges. |
